Francis Fernando, a native of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, Philippines, is the first nurse in the U.K to be awarded with the National Health Service (NHS) Clinical Leaders Network (CLN), AQuA Henderson Quality Award for his work on hip fractures with the NHS.

This award recognizes the work of clinicians who have created successful projects that resulted in tangible treatment and clinical improvements and made a difference in the lives of patients.

There were more than 1,000 applicants from the National Health Service (NHS) workforce in the UK, out of which only 3 were chosen. Fernando bagged the first award by impressing the panel of judges headed by U.K Health Secretary Andrew Lansley, for his outstanding project. He was presented with a bursary of $ 5,000 to develop and spread his winning project to other NHS institutions.

During this campaign, he introduced a successful implementation of service improvements leading to specialist medical care and early rehabilitation of patients suffering from hip fractures. He took treatment to another level by giving it a holistic approach wherein patients felt a balanced emotional, physical and psychological well being.
